"Everything is Connected", is a philosophy inherent in Kevin Harney's being and subsequently made manifest through his creative expression. Kevin's art is a consequence of his, and human beings, relentless question throughout all time, "Who Am I" and "Why Am I Here". Kevin believes that everything is connected. Plants, humans, the natural environment, technology etc., are all united; all are one and coexisting. Kevin has found this to be re-enforced through his art. Kevin concentrates and meditates on the spiritual and omnipotent force of the Universal Mind and the Natural Laws of the Universe as in the Law of Attraction. Parcels of his life have materialized in the images that Kevin creates. Many of Kevin's works reflect the forms and colours found in West Coast "First Nations" art of British Columbia, Canada. It is therefore possible that ties to the aboriginal culture of BC and Vancouver Island, through both his past childhood and close relationships, could have surfaced in Kevin's art. Many individuals who view his work also fortify this cultural connection. A self-taught graphic and web designer, Kevin's passion for this field of work is greatly influenced by an immense curiosity of visual communication as well as the rich vibrant colours that are reproduced in fine art giclee prints. Whimsical and often dramatic organic forms are realized through unforeseen results of computer generated algorithms, similar to a painter's vision in concert with brush techniques. What is different is that Kevin often can not calculate the end result. "It is like driving a car at an arcade game for the first time, you can see or know where you wish to go but your manipulations of the steering wheel can lead you in an unpredictable direction." Kevin's artistic direction, which is at times conscious and voluntary or unconscious and involuntary, is not directly under his control. Kevin is fascinated by this unknown element, dimension or energy that is constant and influencing. Kevin is drawn to the colours, shapes, sensuality and asymmetry of this abstract journey. Kevin's effortless materialization of attaining his goal, of presenting his art to the world in this fashion, has deepened his faith in the creative thought process. "You are what you think, thought is creative." In Kevin's trial and error through many years of manipulating images, he has reached a point where his found or created images are a pliable substance at his mind and body's disposal. "I am mesmerized by the interpretations of my work. of the images that appear in the minds of onlookers. It often gives me a whole new perspective or meaning that I would otherwise not have seen." I am truly blessed that my art affords me the incredible freedom to present a message of peace, faith and understanding to those that I connect with. I believe that nothing is coincidental, events happen by the choices that we as humans all make, and the results we experience are the sum of our personal and collective outcome. |
